Victory in Lyon: Bayern keep play-offs firmly in sight

In the Euroleague, the two German teams were challenged on Tuesday. Alba Berlin lost at Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv. The FC Bayern basketball team still have their sights firmly set on the play-offs after a win in Lyon.

Alba Berlin continue to wait for their first win after the two-week Corona break. On Tuesday night, the Berliners lost 78-87 (39-47) to Israeli series champion Maccabi Tel Aviv in a Euroleague make-up game despite a great fight. It was the fourth defeat in a row and the 14th defeat in the 20th game of the premier league. The best Berlin scorers were Maodo Lo with 18 points and Luke Sikma with twelve.

Bayern win in Lyon

FC Bayern can still hope for another quarter-final appearance in the Euroleague. In a make-up game of the 18th matchday, the five-time German champions won 77-68 (45-29) at French champions Villeurbanne on Tuesday night and are in tenth place with a record of 10:11 victories, just behind Anadolu Efes Istanbul (10:10) in eighth place. The best eight teams qualify for the knockout round after 34 matches.

Bayern were the clearly better team for a long time. After ten minutes, the team of Italian coach Andrea Trinchieri was four points ahead in front of 2000 spectators. Five minutes later it was already 33:20. At the break the Bundesliga team increased to 45:29.

Third win in the last four games

After the change of ends, Munich continued to have few problems against the French. With 61:42 after the third quarter, the match was actually already decided in favour of the South Germans. Even though the hosts were able to reduce the score in the final period, Trinchieri’s team could no longer be denied their third Euroleague victory from the past four games. Augustine Rubit was the best Bayern professional with 17 points and ten rebounds.

On Friday (8.30 p.m./Magentasport), the Munich team will continue in the top division in the German duel with Alba Berlin.
