VfB Stuttgart goes for Fairtrade fan merchandise

As the first Bundesliga club, VfB Stuttgart announced on Monday that the entire value chain of its own merchandise products will in future comply with the Fairtrade standard.

Fans of VfB Stuttgart will wear Fairtrade products in future. The Bundesliga club issued a press release on Monday stating that the Swabians’ latest merchandising collection would be certified with the Fairtrade textile standard. In order to meet this standard, the entire supply chain from cotton production to the garment manufacturing plant must stand for fair production conditions beyond what is legally required. In addition to ecological standards, this also includes living wages for employees of all companies in the supply chain.

VfB wants to be a pioneer with this measure and, according to B2C Director Jens Bräunig, hopes to set a good example. From now on, production would not only be about quality, but also about responsibility in the form of ecological standards and fair wages. So far, the Cannstatt-based company had already focused on organic cotton from Fairtrade cultivation, but now they want to keep a closer eye on the entire value chain.
