Out of the dream, even before the tournament enters the hot phase: G2 Esports, Fokus and BIG miss the Valorant Challengers Play-offs and the VCT Stage 2 Masters.
In the end, a sobering result from a German perspective remains as the interim standings in Valorant eSports. After many problems, the German representatives were eliminated early from the Valorant EMEA Challengers and were unable to advance to the knockout stage.
While the play-offs were the real goal, especially for G2, many were counting on a repeat Masters appearance. The Berlin-based organisation started successfully in the group stage and was able to defeat – of all things – the reigning German Valorant champions Fokus. After that, however, the other top organisations in Europe flexed their muscles: Every other duel was lost and G2 was ultimately eliminated in disappointing fashion with a 1:4 score.
K.o.-Phase without German participation
Focus was also unable to build on previous performances and is paying dearly in its first season in the top European league on the Valorant Champions Tour. The only success came on the last matchday – but Fokus still couldn’t give up the red lantern in Group A.
BIG also finished bottom of the table in Group B. The only bright spot was the 2:0 win against the Russian team M3C, which finished third.
The organisations in the play-offs are Fnatic, Acend, FunPlus Phoenix, Guild Esports, Team Liquid and M3 Champions. The Valorant Champions Tour 2022 will run in the Stage 2 Challenger phase until 26 June.
In addition to a prize pool of 200,000 euros, three starting places for the Valorant Masters 2, which will be held in Copenhagen in July, are at stake. The teams with the most points from the two Masters tournaments are allowed to go to the VCT Champions, where the best 16 teams from all over the world compete against each other.
