VBLCC: Underdogs storm to the top in the northwest

On the second matchday, 1. FC Magdeburg was able to score three times again and is in the lead. Title contender VfL Bochum got off to a flying start in the southwest, where the SVE made a momentous mistake.

It was a lot of learning by doing that 1. FC Magdeburg had to do in its debut season in the Virtual Bundesliga Club Championship (VBLCC). At the end of last season, they were in 17th place with 17 points from 34 games and a goal difference of -145. Only VfL Osnabrück did worse.

With new signing Onur Polat, who came from Viktoria Cologne, the team from Saxony-Anhalt is entering the new season of the North-West Division. Not only is the squad stronger, but so is their performance: With two speed runs each – that is, a victory after only two games – they beat Hannover 96 and now also FC St. Pauli (3:2, 4:3). “The start of the season couldn’t have gone better for us. The 2vs2 is one of the most important things – and the chemistry between me and Ali Gencer is very good in such a short time,” the North Germans are still waiting for their first victory.

The same applies to VfL Wolfsburg, who lost to the second surprise team so far. Borussia Dortmund hardly gave the Wolves a chance, beating their opponents 6:1 in the doubles and 5:1 in the singles. The matches were played offline in Dortmund – the DFB Cup match between the two clubs also took place at the same time. In that match, the black and yellows were once again unsuccessful. Hot on the heels of the top duo are 1. FC Cologne, FC Schalke 04, Borussia Mönchengladbach and reigning champions SC Paderborn (four points each).

Fast-paced VBL debutant – confident title favorite

The duel between Fortuna Düsseldorf and VBLCC newcomer Preußen Münster was a real thriller. In the doubles, Fortuna initially managed to get off to a good start, but then Preußen’s Hisham Badreddine dominated. In the duel with Justin Springer, ‘Liboo_7’ was already leading 5:0 after 35 in-game minutes. After the final whistle, the score was 6:2, which meant that a play-off had to be held – and it was to be no less spectacular. Fabio Immerthal made up for Fortuna’s slip-up with a 7:1 victory over Milan Jonathan Fischer.

Due to the uneven number of participants in the North-West Division, VfL Bochum had a bye in the offline opener in Cologne and thus only entered the fray this week. The ambitions of the Ruhr Valley club are high. The club brought in the German individual champion and eChampions League winner Jonas Wirth to Castropper Straße. The team lived up to expectations on their first matchday at least: they won 5:1 and 4:1 against Hamburger SV.

The Bavarians send their regards from the top

Surprises are not only happening in the northwest, but also in the southeast. On the one hand, 1. FSV Mainz 05 got off to a bad start. The “zero-fives” also conceded a defeat on the second matchday – against league leaders FC Bayern (0:2, 3:4). The Munich team, with its new eSports squad, was able to carry the momentum from their opening victory over. “A stable start to the season, but we have to keep working on ourselves and keep performing,” wrote Bayern’s Furkan Kayacik on X.

He and his teammate Koray Kücükgünar are hot on the heels of both TSG Hoffenheim and VBLCC newcomer SSV Ulm 1846, who each have six points. Karlsruher SC were able to move up the table after beating SC Freiburg in the Baden derby (4:3, 5:2).

A line-up error costs the SVE possible points

Favourite for the title RBLZ Gaming was also able to climb in the table – without having to invest much. The opposing team, SV Elversberg, made a mistake: Benjamin Sesko took a seat on their virtual bench. However, since Leipzig had selected him as a VBL Power Item before the season, the team from Saarland should have replaced him for this game. They did not, which is why the doubles and first singles were both subsequently awarded to the Saxons by a score of 3-0.

“We had taken out the respective bench players from our previous test matches in order to prepare for other opponents. When we went into the game against the RBLZ, we had registered a different account for the game. Although the line-up was exactly the same as in the test matches – only in this case with Sesko on the bench,”

“In terms of play, we didn’t do too badly and we were actually well prepared for this game.” Copertino doesn’t want to reproach anyone: ‘We’re all only human. We have to look on the bright side: we didn’t make this mistake against a team that we could have beaten.’
