Anders ‘Anders’ Vejrgang of RB Leipzig celebrated his 16th birthday on Tuesday, but he still has to wait for his debut in the VBL Club Championship.
It could be straight out of a Hollywood script: Probably the greatest FIFA talent of this generation will turn 16 on 25 January, and the next day he will be making his virtual debut in the Virtual Bundesliga (VBL) Club Championship by bevestor. The prodigy celebrates a dream debut and sends his club to the top of the table in the South-East Division.
In reality, the community will not yet get to enjoy the skills of ‘Anders’ on Wednesday night. The teenager is not nominated against leaders FC Ingolstadt and TSG Hoffenheim. Umut ‘RBLZ_UMUT’ Gültekin, who was recently voted eFootballer of the Year 2021, and Richard ‘RBLZ_GAUCHO’ Hormes take on both singles and doubles.
WL record, cups and demonstrations
It should only be a matter of time, however, before Vejrgang is also allowed to prove himself against the German elite at the highest national level. The competition statutes of FIFA developer EA SPORTS stipulate that players may only take part in official tournaments such as the VBL Club Championship at the age of 16.
The fans were correspondingly excited in the past months, in which ‘Anders’ played almost everything of note into the ground in unofficial competitions. The jewel from Leipzig gained special attention with his Weekend League record, of course, but the Dane also won Eligella and Blacki Cups like a conveyor belt.
Will ‘Anders’ stand the pressure?
RB celebrated the birthday of its talent on social media: “Ready to show his potential on the big stage,” the 16-year-old said. The status that ‘Anders’ already enjoys within the scene is also proven by a tweet from the FIFAe account: Several FIFA celebrities congratulate the Leipzig player via video and are looking forward to his official premiere.
However, the Saxons are aware of the risks of the great hype that ‘Anders’ has received and are therefore likely to act cautiously – the best proof is the non-nomination for the current double matchday in the VBL Club Championship. The experienced colleagues get their turn, the newcomer still remains in the second row.
So far, Vejrgang has been able to play largely free away from the big tournaments, but under the pressure of the FIFA Global Series (FGS) he will have to assert himself anew. The community will be looking to Leipzig to find out whether the triumphant march predicted in many quarters will actually take place – or whether the world’s top players will be able to put a stop to the prodigy.
