‘s-Hertogenbosch – Dutch outsider Tim van Rijthoven has won the tennis tournament in his home town of ‘s-Hertogenbosch in a complete surprise.
The world number 205, only in the main draw thanks to a wildcard, beat Russia’s Daniil Medvedev 6:4, 6:1 in the final to crown his dream week. In the course of the tournament, the 25-year-old had already defeated the American Taylor Fritz and the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime. It is the first ATP title for the Dutchman.
Despite his defeat in the final, Medvedev will replace Serb Novak Djokovic at number one in the world rankings this Monday.
