Van der Vaart will not return to Ajax

Rafael van der Vaart (40) was reportedly the next ex-employee after Louis van Gaal (72) that Ajax Amsterdam wanted back in the crisis. But it seems that nothing will come of it now.

Rafael van der Vaart will not take up a position in the “technical heart” of Ajax Amsterdam for the time being. This is according to a report in the Dutch daily newspaper “De Telegraaf”. The former Bundesliga player, who was on the ball for HSV for a long time and captained the Reds at times, will therefore not be returning to his struggling training club.

Life partner apparently plays a role

The reason for the cancellation is said to be the activities of van der Vaart’s life partner Estavana Polman (31). The Dutch national handball player is under contract with Rapid Bucharest in Romania, where the 109-time Oranje international spends as much time as possible.

Van der Vaart (active at Ajax from 1993 to 2005) thus does not succeed Louis van Gaal for the time being. The former Bonds coach and ex-coach of Ajax had recently returned as an advisory member for the supervisory board. Officials and fans want to restore the club’s DNA.

Ajax with negative record in club history

The Dutch record holders, coached by Maurice Steijn, have been without a winning record in the league for five games, losing all of their last three Eredivisie matches, most recently 2-1 against AZ Alkmaar. As a result, the traditional club has plummeted to 16th place in the table, which is the worst position in the club’s history. Ajax also failed to win either of their two matches in the Europa League (two draws).
