Valorant Champions Tour: Russian team will continue as independent selection

The Russian team Gambit Esports has announced that their players will once again participate in the Valorant Champions Tour as an independent selection.

Due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, the European leg of the Valorant Champions Tour was briefly suspended. When play resumed on the first weekend of March, several teams were missing – including the Russian team from Gambit Esports.

The latter has now announced that its players will participate in the tournament again as an independent team. The selection will now play under the name “M3 Champions”, a reference to their success at last year’s Stage 3 Masters in Berlin.

Gambit Esports becomes M3 Champions

The official Twitter message on the matter said, “It continues to be a very difficult time for everyone. During this time, eSports can continue to serve fans – and we sincerely wish for the tournaments to continue. We have therefore made the decision to give our players the opportunity to participate as an independent team in the upcoming VCT competition.”

The VCT EMEA tournament’s official site responded to the news, confirming that the cancelled matches will be made up this week: “From Wednesday 16 March, players will compete under the name ‘M3 Champions’ and all postponed matches will be made up in the coming days.”

The squad remains unchanged. It is unclear at this stage if and when the selection will compete again as Gambit Esports.
