US association wants Matarazzo

After the separation from the sporting management, is the next manager at TSG Hoffenheim leaving? The fact is: Coach Pellegrino Matarazzo has received an offer from the US FA

This was first reported by the Bild-Zeitung, and it is indeed the case that the 46-year-old is being courted by the Americans. Matarazzo is said to have been open about the offer, which had already been made to him by sporting director Alexander Rosen on Monday before it was dropped. Accordingly, he had already submitted it to Rosen. However, the coach has not yet decided whether he wants to leave TSG despite his contract running until June 30, 2025.

However, the interest of the US association in taking over as national team coach should undoubtedly honor the Italian-American. And: Rosen, Matarazzo’s most important supporter, has been released. Technical director Bastian Huber and Pirmin Schwegler, who will leave his job as head of professional soccer at the Kraichgau club on September 6, also stood or stand behind Matarazzo. Likewise, Frank Kramer, the academy boss who is to act as interim head of sport, left no doubt as to the security of Matarazzo’s job. Nevertheless, it is understandable that he is at least listening to the offer from the USA in view of the completely shattered situation at the Bundesliga club.

For one thing, the squad is far from ready just a few weeks before the start of the season. Two central defenders and two midfielders are still to be added, as well as a striker in the event of Maximilian Beier’s departure, in whom Borussia Dortmund have also shown interest as a possible replacement for Niclas Füllkrug.

On the other hand, there is – once again – the question of who really makes the decisions at TSG. Financier Dietmar Hopp gave up his 50+1 special status in the previous season and returned the majority of voting rights in Profifußball-GmbH to the e.V.. The fact that interim club chairwoman Simone Engelhardt, who had previously supported Rosen for months, simply agreed to the manager’s resignation on Monday seems to be a rather naive assumption
