Unleashed Red Devils give van Nistelrooy the perfect debut

Manchester United shot the frustration out of themselves against Leicester City in the League Cup. Six goals were scored in the first half alone, with the final score being 5:2 to the Red Devils.

And the Red Devils got off to a furious and spectacular start: Fifteen minutes into the game, Casemiro’s shot into the right corner was already on target for the goal of the month (15′ ). United continued to press and then scored in the 28th minute: Dalot punished the Foxes’ high defensive line by playing a cross exactly into the path of Garnacho, who only had to slide the ball into the net.

Wild first half

Then it happened in quick succession: El Khannouss scored in the 33rd minute after an uncertainty from Bayindir, but just three minutes later, Bruno Fernandes restored the old distance with a little luck: a direct free-kick from the Portuguese was deflected into the left corner for Leicester keeper Ward.

Three minutes later, the Red Devils were celebrating again when Casemiro’s header first hit both inside posts before the Brazilian followed up and shot in from close range to make it 4-1 (39′). Because the Manchester defense got in its own way shortly before the end of the first half, Coady was able to score a spectacular 4-2 half-time goal after a set piece (45.+3).

Bruno Fernandes also scores a brace

The van Nistelrooy side continued brightly after the break: once again, it was Bruno Fernandes who benefited from Okolis’s short back pass, outwitting Ward with a clever move to make it 5-2 (59”). That was the end of the scoring, after which van Nistelrooy and Leicester manager Steve Cooper made a number of substitutions, but without changing the score. So van Nistelrooy and the Red Devils celebrated a successful debut for the interim manager.

On Sunday, Manchester United face Chelsea in the Premier League. The Foxes are at Ipswich Town the day before (4 p.m.).
