Crossplay has been a big wish topic of the FIFA community for years, so far EA SPORTS has not taken pity – but that could change in FIFA 23.
The FIFA community reaches gigantic proportions with every new spin-off, millions of players regularly take to the virtual pitch. What unites them is ambition and passion. What separates them are their platforms: Xbox, PlayStation and PC users only meet opponents or teammates from their own family of devices.
A circumstance that has been criticised for years. Numerous eSport titles have long since opened up to crossplay. This function also allows you to play against and with players who operate on a different platform. If recent revelations are to be believed, this development is also imminent in FIFA. Two independent sources have now reported this.
Fan camps could be united
Tom Henderson, who only recently reported for VGC about piquant statements by EA CEO Andrew Wilson about the FIFA licence, follows up. Via the news site “xfire” he announced late on Monday that crossplay will be implemented in the upcoming spin-off – and that it will be “FIFA 23”.
The name “FIFA” alone is by no means insignificant in times of constant skirmishes between EA and FIFA, but the crossplay function tops it. The developer could thus solve a political issue that had repeatedly caused criticism among fans – and now really make one out of three communities.
Henderson reaffirms ‘Donk’ leak
Henderson’s information should be taken with a grain of salt, despite his reputation and the rapid and partly unfiltered dissemination. The journalist himself does not name any sources, he seems to trust his reputation. However, Henderson already received advance backing in this regard a few months ago.
The well-known leaker ‘Donk’ had predicted the crossplay integration for FIFA 23 in August 2021. However, he had gone even further and predicted the upcoming spin-off to be a free-to-play title – according to Henderson, there are no signs of that. Donk’ has meanwhile joined the presumably new state of knowledge. This means that two independent and in the past mostly reliable sources exist and so the revelations have some substance.
Great progress for Hypermotion?
In addition to crossplay, Henderson also writes of two World Cup modes for FIFA 23, one each for the men and women. In addition, the developer is said to have been working flat out on the Hypermotion technology, which was innovative in FIFA 22, and has made great strides.
The development team is said to have captured more than 100 times the amount of data in a single season compared to the entire franchise history before. Henderson bases these impressive figures on alleged statements made during a staff meeting at EA SPORTS. However, there is no second source for this.
Incidentally, no comment was made on the overall issue from EA Vancouver itself.
