Ulm beats Rostock to take the lead

Ratiopharm Ulm’s victory over the Rostock Seawolves makes them the new leaders in the German Basketball League. For a long time, it looked like it would be a clear victory against the northern Germans, but the game became exciting again towards the end.

The Spatzen took a 13-point lead in the opening quarter. Rostock, on the other hand, lacked any offensive rhythm, with the Seawolves missing out on several easy chances, especially in the zone. By the end of the first half, the deficit for the visitors had increased to 20 points (48:28).

However, the team from northern Germany visibly benefited from the break and returned to court with more energy. It snapped up numerous second chances, particularly at the offensive board. D’Shawn Schwartz alone snapped up four of Rostock’s 13 offensive boards. The American also led his team in scoring with 23 points.

Surprisingly, the game actually became exciting again in the final period. With just under three minutes left on the clock, Sid-Marlon Theis cut the deficit to -3 from the foul line (71:68). However, Ulm still had the last word to end the game with an 11:4 run.

The Swabians’ top scorer was guard Justinian Jessup, who needed 17 shots to get his 15 points. Karim Jallow added a double-double (eleven points, ten rebounds).

Ratiopharm Ulm now heads the table in the German league, although Bayern can draw level again in tomorrow’s top-of-the-table clash against Heidelberg.
