Ulm basketball players start victoriously

The basketball players of ratiopharm Ulm have started the new Eurocup season with a home victory.

On Tuesday, the German champions won 80:70 (42:38) against Dolomiti Energia Trento. Trevion Williams dominated under the baskets with 13 points and 16 rebounds.

The Ulm team got off to a furious start with an 8-0 run, but then missed seven shots from the field in a row. In the second quarter, the hosts often scored through quick attacks after winning the ball, Georginho led Ulm to a 42:38 halftime lead on his debut.

After the break, coach Anton Gavel’s team kept pulling away, and an eight-point lead at the end of the third quarter was the highest of the game so far. In the final period, Ulm maintained their lead. Dakota Mathias, who played strongly in the second half, made his third three-pointer two minutes before the end to give Ulm the decisive 77-66 lead. Mathias scored a total of 18 points.

Ulm is a permanent guest in the EuroCup, the Swabians are participating in the competition for the ninth year in a row. Last season, the Gavel squad made it to the quarter-finals. On Wednesday, Veolia Towers Hamburg will be the second German team to enter the competition.
