UEFA opens disciplinary proceedings against English FA

UFA has opened further disciplinary proceedings against England’s FA over the incidents surrounding the European Championship final.

The reason for this is the behaviour of English fans inside and outside London’s Wembley Stadium. It is about a violation of Article 16, paragraph 2 (h) of the Administration of Justice Regulations. This article deals with “cases of inappropriate behaviour” on the part of supporters of member associations or clubs.

UEFA had already initiated several disciplinary proceedings two days after the match between England and Italy (2:3 i.E.) for a pitch disturbance, throwing objects, disturbances during the playing of the Italian anthem and setting off fireworks. The governing body had also appointed an ethics and disciplinary inspector to investigate incidents involving fans outside and inside the stadium.

Dozens of people had allegedly tried to enter the arena illegally. Some of the scenes were chaotic, with reports of people without tickets occupying the seats of actual ticket holders.

The FA had condemned the behaviour of the English supporters as “totally unacceptable” and “embarrassing” and announced its own investigation.
