Real Madrid are fined: The Royal Madrid have to pay 30,000 euros due to the misconduct of some fans in the second leg against Manchester City (3:1).
UEFA has punished defending champions Real Madrid for the misconduct of their fans in the play-off second leg against Manchester City. The “Royals” have to pay 30,000 euros, and on Friday UEFA also imposed a probationary spectator ban. The association justified the sanctions with the “discriminatory behavior” of some Real supporters, but UEFA did not provide any further details.
If the situation repeats itself in the next two years, the Madrilenians face the prospect of individual sections of the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu being closed in a game at home. At least 500 seats would be affected.
In the two games against the Skyblues from England, the Champions League record holder (15 titles) had earned the victory. The first leg in Manchester went to Madrid 3-2 thanks to two late goals, and in the home game, the Whites then left nothing to be desired, running out clear winners thanks to a show from Kylian Mbappé, who scored all three goals (3-1).
Prestigious derby coming up
Real have now secured their place in the last sixteen, where a very special match is on the agenda. The draw has pitted them against Atletico in the Madrid city derby. The first leg will be played at the Bernabeu on Tuesday. The quarter-finalist will be determined at the Wanda Metropolitano on March 12.
