UEFA Champions League: Galatasaray vs Lokomotiv Moscow Match Preview

Galatasaray

Turkish giants Galatasaray kick off their Champions League campaign with a home match against Russia’s Lokomotiv Moscow on Tuesday night. The two teams are joined in Group D by Porto and Schalke 04 in what some would say is one of the easier ones to progress from out of all the Champions League groups.

The atmosphere at the Türk Telekom Stadium is notoriously intimidating for visiting teams and has often been credited with giving the home team a big advantage over their visiting opponents. Lokomotiv Moscow is appearing in their first Champions League group stage match for over 13 years, so they will be hoping that it is not a short-lived return to Europe’s top competition.

Current form

Galatasaray have been formidable at home but their away fixtures have been a different story. In their last four matches, they have won three home matches and lost 4-0 away to Trabzonspor. They have scored ten goals in their last two home fixtures (6-0 against Alanyaspor and 4-1 against Kasimpasa).

Lokomotiv has had a mixed start to their season in the Russian Premier League. In their opening seven matches, they have won two, drawn three and lost two. They currently sit 10th in the table and haven’t won in their last two matches.
