There seems to be no place for Saul Niguez at Chelsea FC. The midfielder may return to Spain sooner than planned.
The ball may be round for Saul Niguez on the island too, but he is far from always playing 90 minutes. In just three short appearances for the Blues in the Premier League and Champions League, he collected just 72. In total, no Chelsea FC outfield player has fewer.
In recent months, the Spaniard has almost fallen into footballing oblivion, playing no role at all for the CL winners. Jorginho, N’Golo Kanté, Mateo Kovacic or even Ruben Loftus-Cheek are needed in central midfield – at least not the 26-year-old.
Atletico probably don’t want either
The left-footer, considered one of the biggest talents in Spanish football just a few years ago, doesn’t really seem to feature in Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel’s plans.
Saul, who is still on loan at Atletico Madrid for a year, could return to his Spanish employers ahead of schedule – but according to Marca, the Rojiblancos do not think much of that. However, since a purchase by the Premier League leaders is extremely unlikely, this return will probably happen in the summer at the latest.
