Transfer to Trabzon: Leverkusen let talented striker Gedikli leave

The 5:2 spectacle in Dortmund was further proof that the competition in the attack is probably too big for Leverkusen’s talent Emrehan Gedikli. The 18-year-old is therefore leaving Bayer 04 and moving to Trabzonspor.

The 18-year-old attacker had only recently extended his contract in Leverkusen until 30 June 2023, but given the current attacking power of the Bayer eleven, the youngster sees little chance of playing and is looking for a new challenge in the Turkish SüperLig.

Bayer 04 can expect a fixed transfer fee of around 900,000 euros for the German U-19 international. The transfer window in Turkey closes on 8 February.

Eight times in matchday squad but no appearance this season

The Oberhausen-born Gedikli has spent the last eleven and a half years at Leverkusen and was hoping to make another professional appearance this season. He made his debut in the Bundesliga last season when he was substituted on matchday 34 in a 1-3 defeat at Dortmund.

In fact, the 1.84 metre tall (77 kg) attacker made the matchday squad eight times this round (five times in the league, three times in the Europa League), but was denied an appearance. Instead, he played four games for the Bundesliga Juniors in the Weststaffel, scoring seven goals.

Championship with Trabzon seems certain

At Trabzonspor, Gedikli could clinch the championship at the end of the season. The club from the Black Sea leads the SüperLig by eleven points. The “closest” rival is Konyaspor – the runners-up will be in Trabzon next weekend – perhaps Gedikli will already be in the mix then.
