Tousart explains Hertha-PSG comparison

Lucas Tousart (24) talks about his role at Hertha BSC, Berlin’s ambitions – and a comparison before his arrival.

Funny Lucas Tousart finds what his coach says. “Like a lion”, the Frenchman fights “without end”. “reigns in the realm of animals. And he is the symbol of the city of Lyon and my former team Olympique Lyon. So the comparison fits quite well, I like it.”

After almost a year and a half in Berlin, the Frenchman is still not one to talk big or stand out on the pitch. But that is just as planned: “It is part of my game and my profile not to be in the foreground,” Tousart explains. “I am a shadow player. I have my qualities, but I mainly try to make my teammates stand out by winning and passing balls and setting them up.”

Team players like Tousart have been too few for Hertha in recent seasons, which is one reason why the course has changed again after the voluminous January 2020, in which Tousart was also signed. And the six-year-old welcomes it: “Hertha bought a lot of players back then, including me. Then Corona came, which changed a lot financially. And it’s true: The club has changed its concept somewhat and is giving itself more time for the hoped-for development. For me, this new concept suits me much better.” Money, he says, “doesn’t always solve problems quickly, it also takes some time and hard work. Pal Dardai, with whom I feel very comfortable, also stands for this change of course.”

Nevertheless, the Berliners find themselves once again in the lower midfield of the table ahead of the upcoming derby at Union . “Hertha could become a club like Paris,” Tousart had said when he arrived last year. Does he still see it that way now? “When I signed, I knew where Hertha were in the table. It was clear to me that it wouldn’t go to the Champions League within one or two years. My comparison with PSG referred to the capital as a location factor. As a club in the capital, Hertha must aim to play internationally in the medium term. “
