Tournament director confident of Djokovic starting in 2023

Melbourne – Tournament director Craig Tiley has expressed confidence in Serbian world number one Novak Djokovic’s participation in the 2023 Australian Open for professional tennis players.

First of all, Djokovic still has to play this year, that will be his intention, Tiley told Australian TV station ABC. “At the end of the day, he’s the number one player in the world and he really loves the Australian Open,” Tiley stressed.

The unvaccinated Djokovic had to leave Australia shortly before the tournament began a week ago. The 34-year-old record champion of the Grand Slam tournament had failed in his appeal against the cancellation of his visa in the Federal Court. Tiley had also come under criticism in the dispute over a medical exemption.
