The Spurs failed to acquire new players due to the ongoing construction of their new €1 billion stadium, an estimate which keeps rising by the day. Chairman Daniel Levy simply couldn’t afford to invest, even at the cost of losing out on Modric.
Mauricio Pochettino already has a set roster, so the lack of new arrivals isn’t as bad as people think it is. Depth is what he could be missing in case injuries strike, but until then, Tottenham remains a championship contender. If they had the funds, the club’s owners would’ve undoubtedly splashed the cash, but considering the circumstances, missing out on Modric isn’t as terrible as it appears at first sight.
