Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff expresses his enthusiasm after the Formula One debut in Miami, gushes about the atmosphere on site and also praises the track itself
It was a Grand Prix of superlatives, even if die-hard Formula 1 fans would certainly have wished for one or two more overtaking manoeuvres in the first race at the new Miami International Autodrome. But in terms of atmosphere and celebrity density, the premiere event was something to be proud of.
Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff was correspondingly enthusiastic. “This event was spectacular,” raves the Austrian. “The city is totally hot for Formula 1. The support of the fans is great. “
“Honestly, I’ve never been to a race that has generated such enthusiasm in one place and such interest as Miami. You can’t cross the paddock because there are so many people. That’s good. I think we should be happy that we have such strong support,” Wolff said.
And the team boss also expresses his satisfaction when it comes to the track and the racing action: “As far as the race is concerned, you can say what you want. It was a first. Sometimes the tracks don’t get it right. But here, that’s not the case. “
“We have a good DRS zone, we had two good DRS zones, and also in the braking zones, for example in turn 17, the track made for great racing. In that corner it was very difficult to brake. If you went off the line, you lost one or two positions,” Wolff explained.
“It’s clear that the drivers will say that’s not optimal. But for racing and entertainment it was a great thing. That’s exactly how it should be. All in all, I would say, for a first time, nine points out of ten. “
