Against TSG Hoffenheim, Dino Toppmöller was on the sidelines for the second time in place of FC Bayern’s head coach Julian Nagelsmann, who was ill with Corona. For the second time, the Munich team won 4:0. But who is the deputy? How did he get into this coaching team? And what are his ambitions?
The desire to become a coach “developed over time”, says Toppmöller. He arrived in Leipzig via Dudelange in Luxembourg, whom he led to three championships and Euro League qualification during his time between 2016 and 2019. Markus Krösche had brought him to RB in 2020, and the 40-year-old has been part of Nagelsmann’s inner circle ever since.
But what about his own ambitions? After all, things have gone pretty well in recent years. Things went up quickly, and now they’re even in the limelight. Now you would like to think that Toppmöller might feel the desire to return to a permanent position in the first row elsewhere.
“As long as I enjoy my work at the club and in the coaching team, there is no reason for me to think about other things. “

“For me, the most important thing is to live in the here and now,” he explains: “I really enjoy my work at the moment with the entire club and the coaching team. As long as that’s the case, there’s no reason for me to think about other things. I want to contribute my part to the overall success with my work – that’s crucial for me.” Nevertheless, and this is his right, Toppmöller adds: “That I would also like to take over the main responsibility for a team at some point is already my ambition and my goal. But I’m perfectly happy in my current role at FC Bayern, and that’s why there’s no reason for me to want to change anything right now. “
