Too many bugs: Biggest F1 league in F1 22 ended prematurely

Too many bugs in the game? Because the regular version of the F1 22 game currently differs massively from the eSport version, one of the largest F1 eSport leagues has now had to cease operations prematurely

Actually, ten rounds were supposed to be contested in one of the biggest F1 eSports leagues away from the Formula 1 eSports Pro Series. But the top league on the PC of the Premier Sim Gaming Leagues (PSGL) is being discontinued prematurely.

The reason for this is the eSports version of the game F1 22, which pro-sim racers in the league have only just received and shortly before the start of Formula 1’s own Pro Series. Now the discrepancy with the old version is simply too great, according to organiser Connor McDonagh: “Drivers understandably don’t want to switch between two versions in order to be able to take part in the outstanding two races. “

Bugs defeat PSGL

Already in 2021, the league had to stop its operations early for the same reason. In preparation for the official virtual F1 season, the affected sim racers will receive a version of F1 22 in which many of the game’s bugs have already been fixed so that the drivers can train accordingly. Accordingly, they would have to keep switching to an outdated platform for PSGL.

During the current PSGL season, for example, no more introductory laps were run because a technical error prevented the tyres from warming up exactly in the standard version.

Codemasters and EA SPORTS are working on fixing this and other bugs for the regular version as well. However, the improved version is not due to be released until the launch of the F1 Pro Series in September. “It is hugely frustrating that once again our season has been ruined by circumstances beyond our control,” McDonagh continued.

Lucas Blakeley in captivating early form

A high standard was nevertheless on show in the PSGL. With Jarno Opmeer, Frederik Rasmussen and Lukas Blakeley, who switched from Aston Martin to McLaren, the top three of the past F1 Pro Series raced for victory in the league. The latter showed impressive early form in the past eight rounds.

With 84 points, the Sebastian Vettel beater finished the aborted season in first place ahead of teammate Bardia Boroman and double world champion Opmeer. Organiser McDonagh, meanwhile, thanked all spectators for another record-breaking season.

It will be exciting to see in the F1 eSport Series whether the Scot can break the two-year Jarno Opmeer dominance in the improved version of the game as well. McLaren also seems to have a claim to the team championship with its good result in the PSGL.
