A championship candidate in the ADAC GT Masters 2023 drops out: Team boss out of action, expansion halted – What will become of Tim Zimmermann?
The ADAC GT Masters is poorer by one title contender: Huber Racing, currently third in the championship with Tim Zimmermann and Jaxon Evans, ends its involvement with immediate effect.
Zimmermann and Evans had won the season opener at the Hockenheimring and are in third place at the halfway point of the season, only seven points behind the top of the standings.
Dark clouds were already gathering when Huber Racing announced in mid-August that team boss Christoph Huber would be absent indefinitely for health reasons. As a result, the team’s involvement in the Porsche Carrera Cup was already reduced to a – still impressive – five cars.
Now the GT3 programme, which Huber Racing only started this year, will also be discontinued. For the time being, they will concentrate on their core business in various Porsche one-make cups after the expansion did not go happily.
“We are immensely saddened by the decision we have had to make, but unfortunately we had no choice but to end the ADAC GT Masters programme at this difficult time,” said Luca Rettenbacher, who has temporarily taken over the reins of Huber Racing.
“We would like to thank Tim and Jaxon for their fantastic performance during the season. Winning the first ADAC GT Masters race is one of the highlights in the history of Huber Racing. A big thank you also to everyone who made this project possible for us. We hope to return to the ADAC GT Masters in the future.”
While the Porsche 911 GT3 R will not be seen for the time being, the question remains as to what will happen next for Tim Zimmermann. in which he could continue his title chase.
The ADAC GT Masters has not yet announced the grid for the race at the Sachsenring as part of the DTM (8 to 10 September).
