After the draw for the groups, ARD and ZDF have agreed on the distribution of matches at the World Cup in Qatar.
ZDF will broadcast the official World Cup opening match, which is actually already the third match of the tournament, between hosts Qatar and Ecuador on 21 November at 5.00 p.m. and Germany’s group match against Spain on 27 November at 8.00 p.m.
ARD will be showing two German preliminary round matches live on Ersten and in the Mediathek: on 23 November at 2pm the match between the team of national coach Hansi Flick and Japan and on 1 December the third group match of the DFB team at 8pm. The opponent is still to be determined between Costa Rica and New Zealand, who will play the last international play-off match on 14 June.
If the DFB team reaches the knockout round, ZDF will broadcast the German eighth and a possible semi-final, ARD will show a quarter-final with German participation.
The World Cup final on the fourth of Advent (18 December) at 4.00 p.m. can also be seen live on Ersten and in the ARD Mediathek. Telekom will show the entire World Cup via its paid service MagentaTV.
