Dominic Thiem has expressed his delight at his first win on the tennis court in many months.
“It’s a very, very nice feeling that I haven’t had for a long time,” said the 28-year-old Austrian after his first-round win at the Salzburg ATP Challenger tournament over compatriot Filip Misolic. It was the first win in 419 days for the 2020 US Open winner.
“It was difficult in general, I knew I had to put in a good performance. And I managed to do that for the most part,” said the former world number three, who is currently ranked 346 after a lengthy hand injury: “But the most important thing was that I could get it over the finish line once.” Thiem’s next opponent will be Argentine Facundo Bagnis on Thursday.
