Thiago extends Liverpool’s injury list – Klopp denies stubbornness

Jürgen Klopp has to contend with a long list of absentees right at the start of the season. Despite this, Liverpool don’t seem to be making any more moves in the transfer market.

The English media estimate that Liverpool FC will miss Thiago for around four to six weeks. And because the former Munich man is in good company, Jürgen Klopp had to speak out again on Friday about possible transfers.

With substitute keeper Caoimhin Kelleher, defenders Ibrahima Konaté, Konstantinos Tsimikas and Calvin Ramsay, midfielders Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones and Thiago, as well as attacker Diogo Jota, the Reds will be without eight professionals for their home opener against Crystal Palace on Monday. At least Naby Keita, who has been ill recently, will be back, according to Klopp, and Tsimikas at least has a chance.

So should Liverpool make another move in the transfer market, especially in midfield? “I am happy with the size and quality of my squad,” Klopp said. Among several solutions for the many absentees, he said, was simply bringing in a new player. “But that only makes sense if it is the right player, not one player.”

If there was this suitable player, however, they would have been active long ago, Klopp stressed. “We are not stubborn and say: ‘No, we will definitely not get anyone else’,” but “it doesn’t look like anything will happen.”
