Ahead of the last few games, a whole host of teams have already booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League. Who is already in the pot for the next round and when is the draw
RB Leipzig made everything clear on matchday four after beating Red Star (2:1) in Belgrade and became the first German team to qualify for the knockout round. Bayern followed suit the next day with a 2:1 win over Galatasaray. In Group F, BVB booked their place in the round of 16 with a 3-1 win at AC Milan on matchday five.
Overview of the round of 16:
Group A: Bayern Munich (group winners)
Group B: FC Arsenal (group winners), PSV Eindhoven
Group C: Real Madrid (group winners)
Group D: Real Sociedad San Sebastian, Inter Milan
Group E: Atletico Madrid, Lazio Roma
Group F: Borussia Dortmund
Group G: Manchester City (group winners), RB Leipzig
Group H: FC Barcelona
The draw for the round of 16 will take place on December 18.
The group winners will be seeded and will face a group runner-up. There are two points to bear in mind: Teams from the same national association are not allowed to meet, so purely German matches are excluded. In addition, teams that have already played against each other in the group stage may not play each other again.
The first legs of the round of 16 will take place on February 13, 14, 20 and 21. The second legs will be played on March 5, 6, 12 and 13.
The last Champions League final in the familiar format will be played at Wembley Stadium in London (June 1, 2024, 9 p.m.). Possibly a good omen from a German perspective. Dortmund and Bayern Munich faced each other at Wembley in 2012/13. Arjen Robben crowned FCB winners of the premier class back then.
