However, he rules out the possibility of filling one of the slots with the European Championship trophy next summer. “The national team was a dream journey for me. Nevertheless, I’ve put that chapter behind me and am fully focused on my next opportunity at a club,” said the defender, who played his last international match in 2018. “The European Championship is no longer a goal for me, you have to know when it’s over. “
Boateng has been without a club since the summer, when his contract with Olympique Lyon expired after two unsuccessful years and was not renewed. At the beginning of October, he trained with his former club FC Bayern and a return was on the cards – but was ultimately rejected by the bosses. Since then, Boateng has been keeping fit with the Munich U23s.
