“There is interest”: Boateng holds out the prospect of a winter commitment

Following his failed stint at FC Bayern, Jerome Boateng (35) is still without a club. But that is apparently set to change this winter

“It’s clear to me that my footballing journey is not over yet,” said Boateng in an interview with the SID published on Wednesday, ruling out the possibility of ending his career. “At the moment, I can’t say exactly where I’ll continue on my path, but I’m definitely ready for more.” When asked whether he would continue his career in Europe, the USA or Asia, he replied: “There is interest from all the continents you mentioned.” He “firmly believes” that it will work out in the winter with a commitment where “everything fits”.

When choosing a new job, the 2014 world champion apparently also considers the prospect of trophies. “At the end of the day, titles count,” says Boateng. “That’s what motivates me and I’m prepared to put everything on the line again. The display case still has places available. “

However, he rules out the possibility of filling one of the slots with the European Championship trophy next summer. “The national team was a dream journey for me. Nevertheless, I’ve put that chapter behind me and am fully focused on my next opportunity at a club,” said the defender, who played his last international match in 2018. “The European Championship is no longer a goal for me, you have to know when it’s over. “

Boateng has been without a club since the summer, when his contract with Olympique Lyon expired after two unsuccessful years and was not renewed. At the beginning of October, he trained with his former club FC Bayern and a return was on the cards – but was ultimately rejected by the bosses. Since then, Boateng has been keeping fit with the Munich U23s.

“Of course I would have liked to have done that, that’s no secret,” says Boateng about the commitment to the Bundesliga runners-up that fell through. The deciding factor was “that the injured players would come back quickly and that the squad should remain the same for the time being, especially in defense. As a result, my position was already taken.” His legal disputes, on the other hand, played “no role for me”, said Boateng.
