SV Elversberg is currently “the team of the hour” in the Virtual Bundesliga Club Championship (VBLCC). The numbers prove it. Can SVE still make it into the top 8?
SV Elversberg is not only causing a sensation on the real pitch at the moment. In their debut season in the Virtual Bundesliga Club Championship, the Saarland club could make it into the play-offs.
The prerequisite for this: a place in the top 8 – and they are only three points away from that. “The team of the hour”, as Mohammed ‘MoAuba’ Harkous dubbed the SVE with the DFL livestream, made a leap to eighth place on Wednesday – with nine points out of a possible nine. Among them, “die Elv” celebrated a win against direct rivals from Karlsruhe, who they overtook in the table
Elversberg have now won nine of their 15 matches since the turn of the year. The VBL newcomers could take a potentially landmark step next week when they face VfB Stuttgart, who are currently in seventh place and one point ahead of eighth-placed Hertha BSC.
Karlsruhe and Augsburg slip up
While Elversberg have caught up, Karlsruher SC and FC Augsburg have lost ground. KSC only managed to win the Baden-Württemberg derby against Stuttgart, but three points from nine were not enough for the Baden club. The gap to Hertha is four points, and the Berliners have one game less.
Although Augsburg are in the top eight, they could still lose out on fifth place. The Fuggerstädter have been waiting for a win since matchday 23 and have just one point more than TSG Hoffenheim, who are lurking behind them. Background: Those in the top five automatically provide two players for the Grand Final of the Virtual Bundesliga
Final place for Mainz secure – division championship open
Apropos finals: 1. FSV Mainz 05 has already booked a firm place in the final round of the VBL Club Championship. The “Nullfünfer” won all three of their matches on Wednesday and can therefore no longer be mathematically displaced from the top two. Coach Corvin Deterding is “incredibly proud of the work of the whole team”, as ‘Deter’ wrote on X.
Whether the team from Rheinhessen will also become division champions, on the other hand, is still open – and exciting. RB Leipzig are not letting up and have also notched up three wins. The gap is still four points, although the Saxons have played one less match. Next week could point the way forward – because then the two will face each other directly
