Marcus Ingvartsen moves from his home club FC Nordsjaelland to San Diego FC and signs a three-year contract plus option with the future MLS club
The contract of 28-year-old Marcus Ingvartsen, who played as a striker in the Bundesliga for Union Berlin (2019/20 to 2021/22) and then for Mainz 05 (2021/22 to 2023/24) (114 Bundesliga games/24 goals in total), includes a club option for a further two years until 2029. The striker had shown his qualities at Nordsjaelland this season with six goals in eight Europa League games and six goals in 16 appearances in Denmark’s Superliga.
Tverskov also joins
In addition, the team, which will only become the 30th franchise in the MLS at the start of 2025, has also released another player from Nordsjaelland in Jeppe Tverskov (30). The midfielder was signed to a two-year contract, as the Californians announced on their website on Tuesday.
The Coastal Cities are currently in the early stages of putting together their squad: the two Danes are only the second and third new signings – San Diego-born keeper Duran Ferree (17) was the first player to be given a contract.
Ingvartsen full of anticipation
Ingvartsen, who started his professional career with Nordsjaelland in 2017 and found his way into the Bundesliga via Belgian club KRC Genk, is really looking forward to his new challenge and to “being able to help shape the history of a completely new club from day one”.
Tom Penn, CEO of San Diego FC, is convinced that the experienced Danish duo will bring their leadership qualities to bear in preparation for their MLS debut in the 2025 season and will fit in well with the club’s philosophy of fast attacking soccer.
