It’s been a long time coming, but now the transfer has been finalized: Can Uzun is moving from 1. FC Nürnberg to Eintracht Frankfurt for the new season. The club loses a great talent, but collects a hefty transfer fee
Eintracht Frankfurt have won the race for Can Uzun and signed the Regensburg-born player to a contract until the summer of 2029. FCN will receive a base fee of ten million euros plus any bonuses for the attacking player.
“Can delivered exceptional performances for FC Nuremberg in the 2023/24 season. This transfer is something special for him and the entire club family,” said Olaf Rebbe, FCN’s sporting director: “On the one hand, we are losing an absolute top performer, but on the other hand, this transfer and its framework conditions will help FCN on several levels.” The finalization and handling of the transfer was “intensive, but always very trusting.”
16 second league goals as a letter of application
The next step in Uzun’s career will come quickly; he only made his second division debut last season on matchday 32 in the away game at Magdeburg (2:2). In 2023/24, the German-Turk, who had been in the notebook of several clubs, became an absolute regular at the club
“Can Uzun is an example of the path we want to take at the club, developing young talent and preparing them for the Bundesliga within our own ranks,” says Joti Chatzialexiou, the new FCN sports director: “Can has now set the bar very high for our young players in many respects. He is an absolute role model for our young players of the current era.”
The fine technician, who feels most comfortable in the attacking half position but was also used as a center forward in Nuremberg, proved his scoring prowess with 16 goals in 30 games. He also recorded two assists. Nevertheless, he did not make the Turkish European Championship squad in the end – and expressed his incomprehension about it
Now Uzun is looking ahead. “Eintracht Frankfurt is the perfect place for me and my further development,” he says: “I’m really looking forward to the new challenge and can’t wait to present myself to the Eintracht fans.”
SGE sporting director Markus Krösche called his new acquisition “one of the greatest talents in Germany”: “He has exceptional skills for his age. We showed Can our clear plan and convinced him as a result.”
Eintracht had already signed another talented club player in U-21 international Nathaniel Brown, but left the left-back on loan in Franconia until this summer. Central defender Aurele Amenda (BSC Young Boys) and attacker Krisztian Lisztes (Ferencvaros Budapest) have also been confirmed as new signings
