Real Madrid will be without Vinicius Junior for several weeks. The 23-year-old will be out of action until further notice due to a thigh ligament sprain.
Sportingly, Madrid’s start to the season could not have gone better. Thanks in part to the signing of Jude Bellingham, who has impressed in the Spanish capital with four goals in his first three league games, the Royals are the only team unblemished at the top of the La Liga table.
The air is getting thin in the attack
But in terms of personnel, the situation is increasingly deteriorating. After the absences of keeper Thibaut Courtois and central defender Eder Militao (both cruciate ligament rupture), the Madrilenians got the next bad news after the recent 1-0 win against Celta Vigo: Top striker Vinicius Junior has joined the injured list and will be out for several weeks. The Brazilian international had to be substituted in the 18th minute and is probably struggling with a thigh ligament.
For Madrid, this news is also inconvenient because Carlo Ancelotti’s team is already in the doldrums at the striker position. After the departure of top scorer Karim Benzema to Saudi Arabia, the signing of Joselu from Espanyol Barcelona was not enough to fill the gap: The Royals mostly operate in a 4-4-2 with a diamond shape without a nominal striker. Whether Bellingham’s goal-scoring mood will continue in the coming games without winger Vinicius remains to be seen.
