Aidan O’Brien will make Epsom Derby history with a seventh success in racing’s ‘Blue Riband’ if Saxon Warrior finishes first. This would equal the all-time record that is shared across three names within three centuries of racing. From the list of horses left in the race after Monda’s forfeit stage, the Saxon Warrior tops them all. Ladbrokes and William Hill backing Saxon 4-6 to maintain his unbeaten record in the most crucial race. This makes our exclusive 33/1 odds extremely worth it.

Saxon has been pleasing everyone recently winning the 2,000 Guineas as well as being a potential Triple Crown hero. Ryan Moore will be partnered with Saxon Warrior for the first time since they made history in the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster in October 2017. This was when Aidan broke Bobby Frankel’s world record.

Comments from Aidan

“We’ll see what happens with the weather overnight and decide in the morning how many of them will run. Ryan will be back on Saxon Warrior on Saturday and everything is fine with the horse. He’s pleasing everyone with what he’s doing and everyone seems very happy. Donnacha rides him in all his work and he’s been very happy with everything over the last few weeks since the Guineas. It was his first run of the year at Newmarket, so you’d expect him to come on from that, but we’ll have to see what happens on Saturday. I would not like to compare him to any of our other horses at this stage. We all know he was a very good two-year-old and he was a good winner of the Guineas on his first start at three, so hopefully, he can continue to progress in the way he is doing.

Half of the entries left in the Derby O’Brien is responsible for.

After winning the Guineas at Newmarket Donnacha said:

“He travelled beautiful and I thought we were the winner the whole way. I probably got a bit excited at the two pole when I gave him a squeeze a bit early. I thought he was a very good horse even on his homework. We’ve made no secret of it, and I think he’s very, very good. If I had to put my neck on the line I would say his optimum trip would be about a mile and a quarter. He’s not slow but he’s bred to stay.
