The current weather forecast for the race in Le Castellet

The latest weather forecast for the twelfth race of the 2022 Formula 1 season at Le Castellet with predictions for the subsequent race in Budapest

There are very crucial questions on every race weekend of Formula 1 2022. Namely: what is the weather forecast? Can we expect a wet track on site? Will we need intermediates or even rain tyres? Or will it simply remain consistently dry from practice through qualifying to the race and dry tyres will suffice? In short: What do the drivers around Sebastian Vettel and Mick Schumacher, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton have to be prepared for?

To be able to answer these questions, our editors keep a close eye on the weather at the Formula 1 venues a few days before the tests or race weekends begin. And as the event progresses, this preview article is constantly updated with new weather information such as temperature in degrees Celsius, wind strength, cloud cover and expected precipitation for the individual days per weekend.

The result is a weather forecast that is as accurate as possible for the respective Grands Prix of the 2022 Formula 1 season. However, all information is without guarantee, as some motorsport venues such as Spa-Francorchamps or the Nürburgring are known for having particularly changeable weather that cannot always be accurately forecast. Precipitation can also occur there unannounced.

The next time Formula One takes to the track will be at Le Castellet in France, from 22-24 July 2022 for the twelfth race of the 2022 Formula One season.

The latest forecast for the twelfth race of the season at Le Castellet (22 to 24 July):

It’s going to be hot at the 2022 French Grand Prix in Le Castellet: Formula 1 has to prepare for great heat at the penultimate race weekend before the summer break, and rain is considered out of the question.

On Friday (22 July), temperatures will reach 32 degrees Celsius. That’s how warm it will be when the drivers start the first free practice at 2 pm. At 30 degrees Celsius, it will be just a little cooler in the evening from 5 p.m. for the second free practice session.

The wind plays a key role right from the start in Le Castellet. It is blowing onto the track from the south-west at an average of twelve km/h, which should mean a crosswind on the long straights in particular.

Saturday (23 July) will see the highest temperatures of the entire weekend: For the third free practice session starting at 1pm, the values will rise to 34 degrees Celsius. At qualifying from 4pm it should still be just over 30 degrees Celsius.

The wind blows a little stronger on Saturday than on Friday, and it also shifts slightly and now comes from the west. The average wind speed will be 15 to 20 km/h. At the peak, however, individual gusts of up to 45 km/h are possible. The wind direction should mainly mean tailwinds on the long Mistral straight, plus crosswinds in some curves.

The Sunday (24 July) will be a carbon copy of Saturday as far as the temperatures are concerned: At race time from 3 p.m., around 31 degrees Celsius can be expected and bright sunshine without clouds over the track in Le Castellet.

As on Friday, the wind will again come from the southwest, which will result in crosswinds for the most part. With an average of around twelve km/h, it is weaker than on Saturday. Individual gusts will reach almost 30 km/h.

Note: This forecast will be updated several times during the week!

The first forecast for the following race in Budapest (31.07.2022):

Warm conditions are forecast for the 2022 Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring near Budapest. Temperatures are expected to range between 25 and 38 degrees Celsius, a similar level to Le Castellet.

According to initial forecasts, there is a 25 per cent chance of rain on each day of the Formula 1 race, with the possibility of localised heat storms as in the past. However, the main forecast is for twelve hours of sunshine per day and strong winds of up to 30 km/h.
