The current weather forecast for the race in Emilia-Romagna

The current weather forecast for the first race of the 2022 Formula 1 season in Emilia-Romagna with the forecasts for the subsequent race in Miami

There are very crucial questions on every race weekend of Formula 1 2022. Namely: what is the weather forecast? Can we expect a wet track on site? Will we need intermediates or even rain tyres? Or will it simply remain consistently dry from practice through qualifying to the race and dry tyres will suffice? In short, what do the drivers around Sebastian Vettel and Mick Schumacher, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton have to be prepared for?

To be able to answer these questions, our editors keep a close eye on the weather at the Formula 1 venues a few days before the tests or race weekends begin. And as the event progresses, this preview article is constantly updated with new weather information such as temperature in degrees Celsius, wind strength, cloud cover and expected precipitation for the individual days per weekend.

The result is a weather forecast that is as accurate as possible for the respective Grands Prix of the 2022 Formula 1 season. However, all information is without guarantee, as some motorsport venues such as Spa-Francorchamps or the Nürburgring are known for having particularly changeable weather that cannot always be accurately forecast. Precipitation can also occur there unannounced.

The next time Formula One takes to the track will be at Imola in Emilia-Romagna, from 22-24 April 2022 for the fourth race of the 2022 Formula One season.

The latest forecast for the fourth race of the season in Emilia-Romagna (22 to 24 April):

The 2022 Formula One season could see the first rain grand prix of the season at Imola, as conditions are changeable throughout the weekend.

With the first sprint race of the season taking place this weekend, qualifying will already be held on Friday afternoon – probably in wet conditions.
This is because the rains already start during the night, which will continue throughout the day according to current forecasts. The sun is not to be seen all day, which means that quite cool temperatures around 13 degrees Celsius are to be expected. And the wind also plays its part in making the weather uncomfortable at best. The wind direction is constantly changing and wind speeds can reach up to 36 degrees Celsius.

On Saturday, the outside conditions improve noticeably. The rain disappears and the sun also makes an appearance again. Consequently, the temperatures rise again and reach 22 degrees Celsius just in time for the sprint race. The wind, which will be blowing from the southwest most of the time on Saturday, will also be much calmer. For the riders, this means mainly a crosswind on the start/finish straight and a tailwind coming out of the “Fausto Gresini” bend. Nevertheless, the first sprint race of the season will take place under good external conditions.

Unlike the Grand Prix on Sunday. The sun disappears again behind thick clouds and light rain showers occur again and again. The temperatures also drop to 17 degrees Celsius. Only the wind conditions are similar to Saturday. Again the wind comes from the southwest and again it reaches manageable speeds of 16 km/h. Nevertheless, the weather for the Grand Prix is still a wonder bag at the moment. The expected rainfall is not heavy and nobody can predict whether the track will be wet enough for intermediates or even rain tyres. So it remains to be seen whether we are in for the first rain battle of the season.

Note: This forecast will be updated several times throughout the week!

The first prediction for the following race in Miami (08.05.2022):

With an average of nine rainy days, the Florida rainy season begins in May. So there may well be a wet track for the premiere of the Miami Grand Prix. In addition to the extreme humidity that prevails all year round in Florida, the temperatures will also demand everything from man and machine, already exceeding the 30-degree mark in May. Storms are also to be expected along the Atlantic coast again and again.
