The long wait is over: Marcus Thuram took part in team training for the first time on Tuesday. Coach Adi Hütter is pleased.
The momentous action that has forced Thuram to take time off since 21 August with a torn inner ligament in his right knee occurred on the second matchday in the 4-0 defeat in Leverkusen. On Tuesday, the Frenchman took the next step on the way to his comeback: For the first time since the injury, Thuram took part in team training again. Although he was not yet able to complete all the exercises together with his colleagues, Hütter was pleased with the impressions his attacker left behind. “It looked good with him, so he will soon be able to train fully with the team again,” said the VfL coach.
Bensebaini “is on a good way back “
Slightly further along than Thuram is Ramy Bensebaini, who was able to take part in the entire session on Tuesday. The left-back suffered a foot injury just under three weeks ago and, if he can cope well with the strain in the next few training sessions, could be a squad alternative for Saturday’s upcoming away game at Hertha BSC. “He is on a good way back,” Hütter confirmed.
Hofmann: Small breather to promote regeneration
Definitely Jonas Hofmann will be present in the capital, even if the currently quite strong attacking man (three goals in the past five appearances) was not to be found on the pitch at the start of the new training week. The 29-year-old worked individually in the weight room. The reason: Hofmann had taken a knock on his thigh during the match against VfB Stuttgart (1:1). Nevertheless, the goal scorer of the 1-1 draw held out until the final whistle, reeled off the highest mileage of 12.4 kilometres and also set the record for the number of sprints (31). The small breather to promote regeneration, so that Hofmann, who is eminently important for the Borussia game, can fully attack again on Saturday – “tomorrow,” Hütter announced, “Jonas will train normally again.
