Thomas Müller will leave Bayern Munich after the current season. On Saturday, the 35-year-old explained his departure in a letter to the fans.
“After a lot of speculation about me recently, I would like to take this letter to you as an opportunity to provide clarity,” Thomas Müller writes in a statement published on his social media channels on Saturday morning. In it, he officially announced his departure from FC Bayern after 25 years,
“Even after all these years, regardless of my playing minutes, I still have a lot of fun being on the pitch with the guys and fighting for titles together for our colors. I could have easily imagined this role continuing into next year,” Müller continued. ”However, the club has deliberately decided not to negotiate a new contract with me for next season. Even though this was not what I wanted personally, it is important that the club follows its convictions. I respect this step, which the board and supervisory board certainly did not take lightly.”
Müller has been under contract with the record champions since 2000, and his contract in Munich will now end in the summer and will not be extended. The 35-year-old did not reveal what the future holds for him in the message. “Now our full focus is on our sporting goals for the season. It would be a dream come true for me to bring the championship trophy home again and reach the longed-for ‘Finale Dahoam’ at the end of May. I will give my all for that,” Müller concludes his message to the fans.
