“The cement between the stones”: ManUnited brings in title collector Casemiro

Manchester United have brought in a real midfield enforcer: Casemiro is moving to the island from Real Madrid, as the Red Devils also officially announced on Monday evening.

The move came as something of a surprise. After all, Casemiro has been an important part of Real and his contract also ran until June 2025. Together with Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, the 30-year-old formed one of the best midfield axes in the world in recent years.

But now the Brazilian wanted to see something new, has decided on the Premier League and Manchester United. He costs the Red Devils 60 million euros, through bonuses the transfer fee could even rise to 70 million euros. Casemiro signed on the island until 2026, with the option of an additional year.

Since 2013 Casemiro, who came to Spain from Sao Paulo, played for Real Madrid, with a short break of one season at FC Porto. In recent years, he has developed into one of the top performers at the Spanish top club, and it was hard to imagine the starting eleven without him.

Has won many titles with Real

And the title cabinet of the strong midfielder kept filling up over the years in Madrid. He won the Champions League five times with Real, as well as three league titles and a cup victory. But that’s not all: Casemiro also won the FIFA Club World Cup three times, the UEFA Supercup three times (most recently with a 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt) and the Spanish Supercup three times.

Casemiro, who has made 64 appearances for Brazil (five goals), has also won a major title for the national team – winning the Copa America in 2019. Now he is expected to provide stability at Manchester United. On Monday evening, before the match against rivals Liverpool, which coach Erik ten Hag won with his team, the six-pointer was presented to the fans.

The transfer is still subject to British visa requirements, but that is a formality. His new coach ten Hag said metaphorically on “Sky Sports”: “He is the cement between the stones, that’s what we were looking for in the summer and we found him. I am very happy about Casemiro’s signing.” The new signing himself is “unerring as ever to make the fans proud and bring success to this great club.”
