The turn of the year always means preparing for the Team of the Year in EA SPORTS – also in FC 25. When does the prestigious FUT promo start? When will the TOTY be released?
It’s one of the oldest and most enduring traditions in Ultimate Team of the EA SPORTS football simulations: the Team of the Year – TOTY for short. The developer presents a pool of strong players from the past year, from which FUT fans can choose their eleven favorites. The prestigious promotion is just around the corner, so we’re summarizing all the information about this year’s TOTY in FC 25.
What TOTY content can we expect?
At the center of the TOTY promo are, of course, the two Teams of the Year for men and women, each featuring twelve cards: the eleven most voted players and a twelfth professional from the public vote. The pool of nominees includes between 50 and 100 candidates.
In addition, EA SPORTS traditionally provides further players with TOTY cards as “honorable mentions”, which become available via Squad Building Challenges (SBCs) or Objectives. Added to this are TOTY icons, which are awarded to some legends of football who would have made it into a Team of the Year during their career.
The TOTY promo’s supporting program includes so-called “lightning rounds,” in which popular packs can be bought in FUT for a short time and in limited numbers. The developer also usually offers additional SBCs and objectives that, for example, provide flashback cards or upgrades.
How should the TOTY promo go?
Based on our experience from previous years, EA SPORTS will probably first present the candidates before opening voting shortly thereafter. So far, fans have been able to vote in a 4-3-3 – i.e. one goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three attackers. The voting is likely to last about a week and a half. During this time, the warm-up series for TOTY will probably start.
After the presentation of the final Teams of the Year, EA SPORTS usually releases the cards in position batches: attackers, then midfielders, then defenders and goalkeepers – finally the entire selections. The twelfth professional is selected again in each case. It can be assumed that the complete promo will extend over three to four weeks.
Special cards are to be expected, which will outshine most items of the previous FUT season in terms of quality – at least in terms of overall ratings. EA SPORTS had awarded up to 97 points in FC 24, and even the “weakest” items had over 94 points. The “honorable mentions” are likely to have overall ratings in the low 90s or high 80s.
What might the TOTY schedule look like?
A combination of schedules from previous years and leaks suggests that the presentation of the candidates and the start of voting could take place as early as next Sunday and Monday (January 5 and 6). The digital voting booths should then be open until the end of the following week (by January 17). The warm-up series could start a few days earlier.
The TOTY cards will probably be in the FUT packs for two days each according to position before they are replaced by other team members. The icons should be released in the usual promo teams during the same period. At the end of January, all TOTY items and icons could then be added to the packs again for a week – after that, the event will probably be over.
