New year, new TOTY: The candidates for the Team of the Year for EA SPORTS FC 25 have been announced and voting has begun. What can we expect in FUT? And when will it come out – the big TOTY?
It’s one of the oldest and most enduring traditions in Ultimate Team of the EA SPORTS football simulations: the Team of the Year – TOTY for short. The developer has presented a pool of strong players from the past year, from which FUT fans can choose their eleven favorites. We summarize all the information about this year’s TOTY in FC 25.
What TOTY content can we expect?
At the center of the TOTY promo are, of course, the two Teams of the Year for men and women, each featuring twelve cards: the eleven most-voted players and a twelfth professional from the public vote. The pool of nominees includes a total of more than 150 professionals.
In addition, EA SPORTS traditionally provides other players with TOTY cards as “honorable mentions”, which become available via Squad Building Challenges (SBCs) or Objectives. Added to this are TOTY icons, which are awarded to some legends of football who would have made it into a Team of the Year during their career.
The TOTY promo’s supporting program includes so-called “Blitzrunden,” in which popular packs can be bought in FUT for a short time and in limited numbers. The developer also usually offers additional SBCs and objectives that, for example, provide flashback cards or upgrades.
How does the TOTY promo work?
EA SPORTS opened the TOTY voting on January 6, and fans were allowed to create two teams in a 4-3-3 formation – that is, one goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders, and three attackers each. Voting will continue until January 13. The Warm-Up Series will probably start during this time.
After the presentation of the final Teams of the Year, EA SPORTS usually releases the cards in position batches: attackers, then midfielders, then defenders and goalkeepers – finally the entire selections. The twelfth professional is selected again in each case. It can be assumed that the full promo will extend over three to four weeks.
We can expect special cards that outshine most items of the previous FUT season in terms of quality – at least in terms of overall ratings. EA SPORTS had awarded up to 97 points in FC 24, and even the “weakest” items had over 94 points. The “honorable mentions” are likely to have overall ratings in the low 90s or high 80s.
What is the TOTY schedule?
The final TOTYs will be introduced in FC 25 starting January 15. The first players from the final selections will then be implemented in FUT starting January 17. The men’s TOTY list will also be available in EA SPORTS FC Mobile starting January 21.
The TOTY cards are expected to be in the FUT packs for two days each, by position, before being replaced by other team members. The release of the icons is expected to take place in the usual promo teams during the same period. At the end of January, all TOTY items and icons could be added to the packs again for a week – after that, the event is likely to be over.
Who can be voted into the TOTY?
Various German and Bundesliga professionals are available for selection in the men’s TOTY, including stars like Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala, Antonio Rüdiger and Joshua Kimmich. The Bundesliga is also relevant for voting on the Women’s Team of the Year – FC Bayern Munich has the most nominees. However, after a year without a national team title and with a few disappointing performances in the Champions League, the German contingent in the Women’s TOTY could be rather small.
