BMW has three riders for two places in the 2025 Superbike World Championship: Will Scott Redding move to another manufacturer and continue to be paid by BMW?
The current situation of BMW rider Scott Redding is similar to last year: The Briton is under contract with BMW, but there is no place for him. A year ago, BMW managed to place Redding in the satellite team. However, due to the Bonovo team pulling out of the collaboration with BMW (more background information), Redding is without a motorcycle for the 2025 season.
What happens next? “Good question, I don’t know the answer to that question,” admits Redding, who would like to continue with BMW. The BMW works team already has Toprak Razgatlioglu and Michael van der Mark. BMW Sports Director Marc Bongers recently confirmed in Donington that only the two works riders will be equipped. Bongers did not want to comment on Redding’s situation.
“My goal is to continue with BMW,” Redding clarified. “I signed the contract because I believed in the project. Now you can see that the bike can win. My goal is to stay here.”
After switching from Ducati to BMW, Redding experienced a difficult time. “It was a rocky road, but the relationship got better over time,” the Brit comments diplomatically. “I want to be here, but I don’t know what they are doing. I’m not putting any pressure on them. The ball is in their court. They have to make the best possible decision. “
With his strong performances at Donington, Redding has recently recommended himself for the future. At the home race in Great Britain last weekend, the former world championship runner-up fought for the podium and secured fourth place
If he is not offered a seat by BMW, a severance package would be the logical consequence. According to insiders, BMW will have to dig deep into its pockets to terminate Redding’s contract. This puts the now 31-year-old motorcycle pro in a surprising position.
Because should a team be interested in Redding for the 2025 WSBK season, the payment will not play such a decisive role, as he will continue to be paid by BMW.
He could therefore also be a candidate for his current team. Team manager Michael Galinski is planning to compete in the 2025 WSBK with a Ducati. The choice of rider is currently still open. Redding won twelve WSBK races with the Ducati Panigale V4R and secured the runner-up title in 2020
