Against Union Berlin, VfB Stuttgart may again use its stadium capacity to the full. The basis for this is the 2G regulation for spectators.
For the first time since March 2020, VfB will be allowed to fill all 60,000 seats in the Mercedes-Benz Arena again against Union Berlin on 24 October. The Stuttgart club announced this on their club website on Friday. The full capacity is made possible by a planned amendment to the Corona Protection Ordinance of the state of Baden-Württemberg, which is due to come into force next week. The prerequisite, however, is compliance with the 2G regulation, according to which only recovered and fully vaccinated fans can purchase tickets. Exceptions apply to children up to the age of five and school-age children, as well as people who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons.
“A long-awaited step back into football normality. “
CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD THOMAS HITZELSBERGER
VfB board chairman Thomas Hitzelsberger expressed his delight at the stadium’s now possible full capacity: “For VfB Stuttgart and its fans, the new regulation is the long-awaited penultimate step back to football normality, with the restrictions for vaccinated and convalescent fans being removed,” the 39-year-old was quoted as saying on Stuttgart’s website. “We need our fans and we know what a difference a full Mercedes-Benz Arena makes: for the atmosphere, for our team and of course economically for VfB as a whole. That’s why we’re looking forward to this day tremendously and hope that as many fans as possible will be there.”
Full capacity can be reached for the first time on matchday eight on 24 October, when Stuttgart, currently in twelfth place, host seventh-placed Union Berlin.
