Cedric Teuchert has big plans for his return to Hannover 96. The 24-year-old hopes above all for a good start – for himself and his new team.
Teuchert is in high spirits. “I was really looking forward to meeting the boys, some of them still know me,” says the 24-year-old about his first two days at Hannover 96 in the new year.
On Sunday, the club announced that Teuchert is coming back. Equipped with a contract until 2024. Unlike 2019, then the offensive player was loaned by Schalke 04. And in 2020, the Lower Saxons let the purchase option lapse – due to a lack of financial possibilities. Teuchert did not return to Schalke, however, but moved to Union Berlin.
The Olympic experience as a shortcoming
After a successful first season, the sporting setback followed in the current season, i.e. very little playing time. Teuchert was part of the squad for the German Olympic team in Tokyo in the summer and therefore missed the pre-season preparation at Union. “Of course I noticed that,” he says looking back. Nevertheless, “I am proud to have taken part in the Olympic Games. Those were many wonderful moments. “
The plan: New momentum in Hanover
The nice moments at Union, however, became fewer and fewer in the course of the first half of the season. Recently, the Coburg native was often no longer part of the squad. Time, therefore, to change, although he has always felt comfortable at Union, as he assures. In Hanover, Teuchert now wants to take off again and get his career back on track.
From his point of view, the conditions are good. “We have a great team and a great coaching team,” he says. However, as the 15th-placed team in the 2nd division, this “great team” is in the midst of a relegation battle. Teuchert isn’t daunted by that. “We have a lot of quality and experience and will do everything we can to perform completely differently in the second half of the season. We can still get a lot of points. The most important thing is that we start well to get out the back.” He wants to play his part – in which position is irrelevant for the time being. He can play centre forward, as well as on the offensive wing positions or as an eighth. “The coach has to find a position for me,” says Teuchert.
We have a lot of quality and experience and will do everything to perform completely differently in the second half of the season.
At the moment, however, he is still “10 per cent” short of his best form due to his limited playing time at Union. The 96 newcomer wants to make up for this by the start on 14 January in Rostock, because: “I want to help the team immediately.
