Testroet and the picture of the boxing match

SV Sandhausen went into the holidays with a good feeling. With a 1-0 win at Fortuna Düsseldorf, the team from the Hardtwald managed to stay in touch with the rescue zone.

Pascal Testroet’s sixth goal of the season (“I’m happy that we were able to get the points with a shot on goal today”) only in the 7th minute gave SVS a very important three points. A deeper look at the numbers clearly underlines that it was a fortunate success: for F95, 65 percent possession, 10:3 corners and 15:4 shots on goal were on the books, even the extra kilometres (124.77: 121.17) did not bring the Rhinelanders the hoped-for return.

The SVS’s duel quota spoke for itself, with Alois Schwartz’s charges winning 59 per cent of the duels. Apropos duel:  Testroet used the comparison with another sport on the club’s own website. “You have to see the season like a boxing match: We have already conceded a lot of hits, sometimes dealt some out, but not often enough yet. We’re wobbling, but we still have to turn the fight around now in the second round. “

Because the “A-grade” was right and his wish for a “dirty victory” (Schwartz) was fulfilled, Sandhausen (17 points) has not only closed the gap to Düsseldorf (20), but also stalked the clubs Hannover and Rostock, who are level on points with Fortuna. Psychologically, the 1:0 victory before the short winter break certainly has a special significance.

The opportunity for the first (!) home win (three draws and five defeats so far) comes at the start of the rest of the season on 16 January against Jahn Regensburg.
