Ter Stegen missing: The ten nominees for the best goalkeeper

On Friday evening, “France Football” presented the ten nominees for the best goalkeeper category – and Marc-André ter Stegen’s name is missing.

The so-called “Tropheé Yachine” has only been awarded once so far, as the 2020 vote fell victim to the Corona pandemic. In 2019, Liverpool keeper Alisson claimed the title, with ter Stegen (FC Barcelona) finishing behind him and Alisson’s Brazilian compatriot Ederson of Manchester City behind him.

In 2021, ter Stegen will definitely not have the chance to move up any further in the rankings. The former Gladbach player’s name is missing from the list of ten nominated goalkeepers. And last year’s winner Alisson is also missing. Only Manuel Neuer of FC Bayern is represented from the Bundesliga. The Premier League provides the most keepers with Ederson, Edouard Mendy, Kasper Schmeichel and Emiliano Martinez, whereby the nomination of the Argentinian goalkeeper from Aston Villa comes as a surprise.

The ten candidates at a glance:

Ederson (Manchester City)
Edouard Mendy (Chelsea)
Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG)
Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester City)
Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid)
Emiliano Martinez(Aston Villa)
Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid)
Keylor Navas (PSG)
Manuel Neuer (FC Bayern)
Samir Handanovic (Inter Milan)
