Tennis star fails to qualify for Paris

Dominic Thiem is on his farewell tour. But the Austrian will not be celebrating his farewell at the French Open as he fails to qualify

Austrian tennis star Dominic Thiem has failed in the second round of qualifying for the French Open.

The two-time finalist lost 2:6, 5:7 to Finland’s Otto Virtanen on Wednesday and will therefore no longer be competing in the main draw of the Grand Slam tournament in Roland Garros on his farewell tour.

Thiem is denied a grand farewell to Roland Garros

For Thiem, who reached the final in Paris in 2018 and 2019, it was his last appearance at the French Open. The 30-year-old, who has now dropped from third to 131st in the world rankings, recently announced that he would end his professional career after the season.

Thiem’s greatest success was winning the 2020 US Open when he defeated Alexander Zverev in the final.
