Tennis prodigy in the top ten

The winner of the tournament in California is climbing to new heights in the world rankings.

Tournament victory with a nice side effect: British tennis player Jack Draper has climbed into the top ten of the world rankings for the first time thanks to his triumph at the ATP Masters in Indian Wells, USA. In Monday’s ranking, the 23-year-old took seventh place after his surprise coup.

He overtook prominent colleagues such as Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev and Stefanos Tsitsipas. Draper defeated the Dane Holger Rune (ranked 12th) 6-2, 6-2 in the Indian Wells final, after eliminating top Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz (USA), among others, during the tournament. For the Briton, it was the first victory in one of the 1000 tournaments on the ATP Tour.

Andreeva defeats Sabalenka in the final

The winner of the women’s competition, 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva, made a similar leap. The Russian, who defeated top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in the final, returned to the top ten in the world rankings thanks to her third WTA tournament title. Sixth place is the best ranking so far for the exceptional talent.

At the top of the rankings, nothing has changed. Sabalenka continues to lead the women’s world rankings by a wide margin. In the men’s rankings, Italian Jannik Sinner, who has been suspended for almost three months, retained his top position. Germany’s top player Alexander Zverev remains in second place despite his current form crisis.
