Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal are among the best tennis players of all time. Now they have had to endure a verbal attack.
In an interview with the Russian TV channel Match TV, tennis pro Alexander Bublik took aim at the two legends Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray.
What annoyed Bublik so much? For him, the two ended their careers too late and in the end, both were more appearance than substance. “I would like to leave at the peak. It’s clear that I’m not Rafa, my legacy will be much smaller, if you can even call it that. But what happened with Andy Murray and Rafa was a circus. I can’t call it anything else,” said Bublik.
Both Murray and Nadal have achieved everything, but he and other players would have looked closely in the dressing room and “then you see one of them bald and old” – by that he meant Nadal, who, with 22 Grand Slam titles, is one of the most successful tennis players in history to date. It is clear that “he is no longer the same and never will be”.
The Kazakh Bublik also added: “Now he is on Novak Djokovic’s team. These are attempts to hold on to something that no longer exists, to echoes of the past. I think that’s a problem. I hope it won’t be the same for me, but I can’t say for sure.” Nadal and Murray have yet to respond.
